At Least It's a Stick
I went out this weekend and bought a new car. I have been trying to put this off for a long time. I did not want a payment and as of September, I am getting my Mustang back from my brother and his girlfriend when they move to L.A. However, looming possible unemployment and recieving news that my Mustang is starting to deteriorate(It is a 96 and has been through hell). I am planning on restoring it when I get it back and coverting it into a GT, since I decided a new one is just not feasable in my current situation. So I settled for a cheaper new car. Very base model, since I plan on making my Mustang the toy. Best thing about base models, they have manual transmissions.
Here it is.

My New Car
I WISH! For real though here is my new car.

My New Car
That is my car a bright-ass red(I really am going to need to invest in a radar detector now) 2005 Chevy Cobalt. I used to own a Cavalier(also a base model '89) and it was the most fun car I have owned, to drive. So this one should be, too. I am just glad that I can drive something other than my work van around town. I will no longer look like a soccer mom.

You're a hockey mom. Love the car, can i drive it?
dont you have like 17 cars to drive down there?
most of which will be more fun than this one.
Yay new car. My new car is the same color, except it's a Ford. But I love it THIS MUCH. I'll race you next time in the Lou. :o)
Deal. 370 here we come.
Ouch. That stings a little. You know how I like it. :P
oh, hey, uh, just FYI, I have a 1967 mercury cougar. You know, just in case you're interested. You know.. just.. yeah.
I'm actually jealous of his new car because it's a manual transmission. That was the worst part about the Cavalier that I bought - it's an automatic. Bo-ring. But Larry'll let me drive this once in a while...right? :)
And now you'll know what it feels like not to be able to see around all the giant SUVs on the road. *sigh*
you own a mustang and you bought a chevy?????? Okay, Larry next time I come through, we're meeting up for a session of car talk.
Sweet ride... I would have invested in a Jeep, though... But I'm partial to Jeeps.
According to Men's Health Magazine, 93% of women like their men to drive stick shift. Automatic makes us look useless.
Sure, Steph, every once in a while.
Ltlme, when I decided not to get a mustang I had to go with cheap and eficient and I hate the little focuses. They are horrible.
LB, guess it makes sense.
my mom has a focus. Their engines are pretty decent. (euro style) They sucked up until this years model.
you could have gone with a corolla. They maintain a high resale value and are pretty economical.
Congrats on the new wheels. When are you going to "break it in"??
Ltlme, think cheaper, I didn't even want to go this expensive but I had few viable, reliable options.
Rake, I have not known anyone who has owned a cobalt, plus I have a warranty, so if anything needs to be replaced they can do it on their dime. Don't worry, i am very jealous that you are getting the GT that I want(except of course color schemes).
GD, I have no idea. Hopefully sooner rather than later, but I have no prospects(at least close to home) as of right now.
*sobbing*
Why must you always bring up the sore subjects?
*sniffle*
LARRT i'm proud! I was interested in a cobalt for a while there. I want to go for a ride! I even got insurance quotes on it'n stuff... But turns out i def. dont have enough money to buy a car. So i'll stick with my grandpa car. Congrats tho! You made i good choice, everything i've read about it is excellent.
Timmy, it is a fun car to drive but still only a 4. Insurance, gas and payments are cheap. I think I will enjoy this one. Wednesday I will give you a ride. Can you drive a stick?
Motherdear, you forgot a couple of things: women also look to see how a man deals with traffic and how they react when things go wrong. Let's you know about their patience and temper.
Larry: congrats on the car, dude. I think it looks great and I'm sure it'll be cheaper on gas that the work van, too and now you'll fit into teeny parking spaces, to boot!!
LabBoy: While I do like a man that knows how to drive standard, it's not because I think they're useless if they don't. I have a stick shift and I think it's great that my hubby can drive it, too. Men's Health is wrong: there are far better indicators about whether a man is useless than his ability to drive stick. Like his ability to fix things around the house and make himself useless on a regular basis. I wouldn't care if my hubby couldn't drive stick - but I would care if he couldn't help make repairs around the house or sat on his ass all day watching tv.
Larry! Even Though it is a 4... If you got the SS then its a supercharged 4, over 200 hp. Not bad for the size of the car. I've heard good things! And not i cant drive a stick... But the next car i buy will def. be a stick, so i need a treacher!
Motherdear, if I ever make it up that way I will give you a call. You can give it a go.
Rake, I would have ordered white, too. Had it been my Grandpa. I aint that picky.
P-shag, is it bad that whenever I return form the northeast, I really feel like killing other drivers? Down here in the midwest I can relax a little more.
Timmy, I wish I could have gotten an SS, but at that point I would have just spent a few extra grand and picked up the Mustang. As for needing a teacher, i tried to teach my ex wife. Turns out when I am trying to teach someone to drive, I have all the patience of an ADD kid on coke. Funny that, I am normally one of the most patient, laid back people on the planet.

Larr,
Car looks good, but I didn't get to drive it. You let me sit the drivers side but thats it! I love sticks, my truck has one and I want another. But the profile of the stick in your new car makes it "feel" like a race car. I drove a little Datsun that had a "racecar" stick feel. It was fun but EASY to speed. Cause you just get in the grove of shifting and bam there goes 50mph. Ohh well, I will save my turn to drive whe you get the stang. YOU WILL GET THE STANG!
Hopefully, I can fix the one up that I already have, in the next year or so and put a stick in it along with replacing just about everything else on the car. It will be a really fun car. Then in a couple of years I will try again for one of the new ones.
Congrats on the new car...I was friggin thrilled when I got my new car...it was my first brand new car, ever.
Very exciting stuff. Enjoy!
You could always drive out here for some breaking in. :D
I'll race you with my Civic. Which also requires some breaking in.
Oh and I'm glad to see that you finally agreed to it! Being MINE of course.
I'll race you both with my little Neon. I'll probably lose, but it'll be fun! Winner gets to choose . . . hmmmm . . . interesting quandry. What does the winner choose?
;-)
I am concerned about this this response that Larry had to Pumpkin Nutz... "I think I will enjoy this one. Wednesday I will give you a ride. Can you drive a stick? "
I am hoping that you are still talking about the car!!
Callie, I have no doubt I can beat you neon(on foot if nessessary) unless it is one of the sxt's. I have serious doubts that I could even come close to a Civic.
Motherdear, I applaud you.
Pammy, I had to go cheap, it is a 5 speed.
Joe, I would not have imagined you were going to be the first to notice that comment. However, I just want to see where the night is going to take us.
Oh, let me tell ya, it may go there!
VIVA EL CARLOS!
